Welcome to Millstone House

Escape to the Picturesque Village of Staindrop

Gary and Helen look forward to extending you a very warm welcome.

Millstone House  is a high end, adult only Bed and Breakfast, which can be found on the outskirts of the historic village of Staindrop, County Durham.

There are many great destinations on our doorstep, for example, Raby Castle is only a 3 minute drive, inside 10 minutes you can find yourself visiting places such as Barnard Castle, a 20 minute drive will take you to Bishop Auckland or Darlington and Durham City is only a half hour drive away.

If it is a weekend treat or a longer relaxing getaway you are looking for, then Millstone House is the perfect setting for your tranquil stay in our luxurious Bed and Breakfast.

Millstone House can also be used as a great base for visiting an array of amazing places further afield including places like the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, the east coast and York. If you fancy some retail therapy then the Metrocentre in Gateshead is less than an hours drive away.

We are also ideally located for visiting fantastic local attractions like Kynren (June-Sept), Locomotion at Shildon, the Bowes Musuem, Beamish - the Living Museum of the North, and also events at Raby Castle, The Witham in Barnard Castle and The Scarth Hall in Staindrop.

There is ample free on-site secure parking. All of our bedrooms are located on the groundfloor (see our access statement for further information).

Although we love all our four legged friends, it is with regret that we do not accept any pets at Millstone House.

Check-in time is between 3pm to 6pm on the day of arrival (please see terms and conditions for futher information).

Best B&B You Will Ever Find

We stumbled across this B&B while looking for accommodation whilst touring the UK in July. Initially we booked two nights but after the first night and talking to Gary and Helen, decided to extend another night and go and see Kynren. If you have never heard of this as we hadn't being from Australia, Google it... It was an amazing performance. Of course, this was just one of the many recommendations provided by our wonderful hosts. There is so much to see around the area we extended another night, making it 4 nights and sadly had to leave as we were coming to the end of our holiday. We totally agree with all the fabulous comments written by others, so won't repeat much, however, if you are looking for complete luxury and a breakfast to die for and fantastic hosts, then put Millstone House on your must do list. Hope to visit again on our next trip to the UK.

Repeat Visits a Must!

Just spent 3 wonderful days at this beautiful B&B. Gary and Helen are the perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble. On arrival we were warmly greeted and the rapport continued throughout our visit. From the always available tea and coffee, the homemade cakes and biscuits to a well stocked fridge with goodies, we felt completely at home. The house, the room, the breakfast oozes quality. Best breakfast ever in all our visits to many B&B's over the years. Gary and Helen are genuinely a couple who have put the utmost thought into making Millstone House a wonderful place to stay.

Highly Recommend (and I'm Fussy!)

Wow, this place is just lovely! All the previous 5 star reviews say it all really. Every little tough has been considered, from the extensive coffee/tea area to the homemade cake in the bedroom on arrival. Beautiful room, every single little thing has been considered for your needs for a very special stay. Gorgeous breakfast, so much choice. Such friendly hosts and an amazing place, we stayed in Bedroom 3, was perfect, had a lovely patio garden, bathroom spotless, very rare you find somewhere that actually surpasses your expectations, especially with a B&B. This is just a different league. First time away without the children in 10 years, had a wedding further away and chose here as a stop off back up the road. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive on how this place would fare (and missed our kids massively), but we would highly recommend staying here. We arrived tired after a long journey but after 1 night, we arrived as strangers and felt we left as friends. Thank you for making our stay so special. xx

Excellent B&B

Recently stayed at the Millstone House B&B for the third time, the B&B is located with views of open countryside in a lovely quiet location with first class accommodation. The owners Gary and Helen ensure that your stay is perfect in every way and I am looking forward to the next time I stay. 10 out of 10.

We recently stayed with Gary and Helen on the suggestion of friends. It was simply a marvellous bed and breakfast. We were welcomed and shown around and had a wonderful stay. The breakfast was great and having the coffee bar and fresh baking daily was a bonus.

Being there was a holiday in itself

The rooms are very spacious and attractive. The French windows lead onto a well furnished private terrace. Breakfast is excellent and beautifully served. Much emphasis is placed on personal service from the owners.

An absolutely wonderful 5* experience

Beautiful accommodation in a stunning location, calm and peaceful but not too far from interesting places to visit and lovely walks. The house has been so cleverly designed and thought through to provide exceptional comfort and quality. Breakfast was superb, the bedroom beautifully appointed, the mattress blissfully comfortable. The real gems were Gary and Helen. Such lovely warm, welcoming hosts. We have travelled extensively (and expensively) but the Millstone House experience stands out in so many ways.

We will definitely return. We just didn't want to leave.

Second wonderful visit

This is the second visit to Millstone House and once again it was a lovely break. The accommodation is first class and Gary and Helen are wonderful hosts, where nothing is too much trouble and Helen's homemade cake in an afternoon is a real treat. It is a wonderful location to visit the area or just sit and relax.

We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Best B&B Ever!

This is definitely 5 star accommodation, better than many a hotel of similar ilk. Millstone is superb in every aspect from the owners Gary and Helen who cannot do enough for their guests to the quality of the rooms and lovely breakfasts. The whol place is wonderfully thought out with lots of extra touches and makes for an excellent base to stay in County Durham. The area has much to offer being close to Raby Castle, Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle. Whether its walking or visiting attractions all are there.

Just as good as before

Sometimes, when you go back to a place where you have previously stayed, it doesn't seem to quite measure up to your first visit. This is definitely not the case with Millstone House B&B! Our second visit was for three nights in Aug 19 and it was as immaculate as when we were there the last time. Gary and Helen are welcoming and friendly hosts who provide top quality accommodation and excellent breakfasts. Everything we said in the review after our first visit still stands. We strongly recommend this B&B and look forward to staying again in the future.
